When to use this

Use this when a photo came out sideways, upside down, or you need a mirror image. Many photos taken on phones include orientation metadata that tells apps which way is up, but not all software reads it correctly. Some images need a true rotation in the pixel data, not just a metadata flag.

Camera apps may save photos rotated 90° or 270° when you hold the phone vertically. Older image viewers or websites sometimes ignore the EXIF orientation tag and show the image sideways. Rotating it here rewrites the pixels into the correct orientation. The metadata is not copied, so the output has no orientation tag to confuse viewers.

Flip horizontal creates a mirror image. This is useful for selfie cameras that save the photo backwards, or when you need a flipped version for design work. Flip vertical turns the image upside down. Both flips preserve the original dimensions.

All processing happens in this tab. Your photos never leave the device. Close the page and everything is gone from the tool. You can process one image or a whole folder at once. The output format can be JPG, PNG, or WebP.

After rotating or flipping, compress the result if it needs to fit an upload limit, or resize it to a specific pixel size. For metadata cleanup, remove EXIF strips GPS and camera tags before sharing.

How to do it

  1. Drop one image or a batch. Files stay on this device.
  2. Choose the rotation angle (90°, 180°, or 270°) or a flip direction (horizontal or vertical).
  3. Pick output format (JPG, PNG, or WebP) and quality if needed.
  4. Apply the change, then download each file or a zip of the batch.

Tips

  • Rotate 90° clockwise is usually what you need for a photo taken in portrait mode that appears sideways.
  • Rotate 180° flips the image upside down. Use it when the camera was held the wrong way.
  • Flip horizontal creates a mirror image. Flip vertical turns it upside down without changing left and right.
  • PNG preserves transparency if your input has a clear background. JPG and WebP make opaque files.
  • Quality around 0.92 is a good balance for JPG and WebP. Lower values make smaller files but softer images.

FAQ

Do my photos leave this device?
No. Rotation and flipping happen in this browser. We never receive the files.
Can I rotate multiple images at once?
Yes. Drop a batch and they all get the same rotation or flip. Download a zip when done.
Why does my photo appear sideways even though it looks correct on my phone?
Many cameras save photos with an EXIF orientation tag instead of rotating the pixels. Some viewers ignore that tag. Rotating here fixes the pixels themselves.
What's the difference between rotate 180° and flip vertical?
They look similar but aren't the same. Rotate 180° spins the entire image. Flip vertical mirrors it top to bottom. For most photos with text or asymmetry, the results differ.
