Check if a photo has a GPS location before you share it

Phone cameras often embed where you were standing. Before you post a picture of a kid, a front door, or a workplace, read the GPS field here. If you want a copy without that info, use Remove EXIF & GPS.

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, or HEIC. Your photos stay on this device.

Photo info is read on this device. Nothing is uploaded.

When to use this

Use this for privacy, not camera geekery. If GPS is highlighted, think twice about posting the original to a public album.

Many social apps strip EXIF on upload. Many do not, and email forwards almost never do. Do not rely on the destination.

This page only reads the file. To strip GPS or all metadata, open Remove EXIF & GPS.

How to do it

  1. Drop the photo from your camera roll, not a screenshot of it.
  2. A green or amber box appears under the file: location found, or none in this file. Found locations include a map.
  3. If you want a copy without location, open Remove EXIF & GPS.

Tips

  • Turn off Location for Camera in iOS/Android if you want fewer of these files in the first place.
  • Screenshots of maps are not the same as EXIF GPS. This reader will not see a pin drawn in the pixels.
  • Keep the original in a private library if you still want the location for yourself.
